cricket zindabad

amazing, unbelievable, incredible all these words carry a lot of weight with them. but none of them can explain the match which i have just seen.
date:12/03/06
venue: vandarers, SA.
teams: SA & Aus
two giants of the present day cricket manifested the reason they r called the spearheads of today's cricket. firstly its Aussies who made a herculian total of 434/4 in 50 overs. thanx to do the unbelieveble performance from the skipper ponting and whirlwind episodes from Gilchrist and Hussey. can anyone ever dreamt of this total? none!! but the nightmare came true! thats wat the Aussies are capable of! they carry their nation's pride with their baggy green cap and the hunger to win in their belly. they had the heritage of Sir Don, gile of Steve Waugh and will of Border. with all these abilities they paid their tribute to the game of cricket. after seeing the score of 434 i thought South Africa will be good side if they managed to make the defeat margin less than 100. but South Africa is a team far beyond my expectations. they chased the target!!! yes! hold ur breath, it takes quite some time to digest this. none has the dare to think of victory, but Smith's team is audacious enough to think of that and achieved it in an emphatic way. they made 438/9 with one ball to spare. the feat was possible due to the maestro innings from Gibbs and enough support from all his team mates. with the absence of pollock doubts were raised on the ability of lower order, but vanderwath & Co were too much for them. they took the challenge and responded to it in a terrefic way. at one stage Aussies were in full control dismissing the hard hitters like Gibbs, kallis and kemp but the unknown danger came in the name of vanderwath who scored some valuble runs and raised the south african spirits. earlier it was Gibbs who with his killer's instinct demoralised the Aussie bowlers with his mercy less shots. along with skipper smith he laid a perfect platform which was later utilised for victory. other than ganguly after the final of natwest trophy 2002 i've not seen any captain as jubiliant as smith after today's match. he cartainly deserves that joy.
after all its a game, and one has to win making the other to perish. but today its the game of cricket which won, its the spectators who got their money back have won and the game of cricket always remembers this as the best onedayer ever played. there may be equals to this but there cant be any match in the annals superior to this! its the vanderers which won the honour of holding this match. it stood as a silent spectator of the heroics of Gilchrist, Ponting, Hussey followed by Smith, Gibbs, Boucher & Co.
